A few years ago, we bought a field, and a view.. and we spent the first three years creating a beautiful home in fabulous surroundings, to be enjoyed by us, our family and our friends.

Since the summer of 2009, we have been able to share the pleasures of living here with up to eight guests, by offering accommodation in four rooms, each with a stunning view over the olive groves to the coastal mountains, the Gramvousa peninsula and the Bay of Kissamos.

Come and share with us the fresh air, beautiful countryside, exquisite sunsets and the comforts of home. Explore the West of Crete, from mountain villages to seaside tavernas, from ancient history to endless walks. If this sounds like your kind of holiday - come and stay!

The rooms

Each of our four rooms sleeps two people, and has an ensuite shower room. Each has a spacious furnished private patio overlooking a garden area and olive groves, with a view to the sea and the mountains.

Each room has a ceiling fan, a roomy wardrobe, satellite television and bedside tables. Air conditioning is available for a small extra charge. Bed linen and bathroom towels are provided, as is an unlimited supply of tea and coffee.

The two twin bedded rooms have a desk, a full size fridge, a kettle, toaster, crockery, glasses and cutlery for two people.

The two double bedded rooms have a spacious kitchen area, with a breakfast bar and four stools, an electric oven and two hotplates. A full size fridge, kettle, filter coffee machine and cooking utensils, crockery, glasses and cutlery for four people are provided.

To accommodate a family of four, there are lockable inter-connecting doors between each double and twin-bedded room. For babies, a full size cot is available on request for no additional charge.

The pool area

Eight metres by five, our swimming pool has a children’s area fifty centimetres deep and a sitting area for relaxing after a hard morning’s sunbathing.

In addition to sunbeds and umbrellas, there is a pool bar where you can enjoy a beer, local wines, soft drinks, tea or coffee. Pool towels are available for no additional charge.

Other facilities

There is a washing machine for guests’ use, ironing facilities, and a dartboard. In addition, we have board games, children’s toys, and a library for holiday reading. We can arrange car hire with a local company at very competitive rates, which include free car collection at both Chania and Heraklion airports.

We have landscaped extensively, using as many indigenous plants and shrubs as possible, and hope you will enjoy the colourful result.

We have added a lovely new private barbeque area. Guests are free to use the brick barbeque, sink and outside eating area with a spectacular view of the sunset across the bay!

Nearby

All main facilities are available in the towns of Kissamos (or Kastelli as it is known locally) and Kolymbari, each 10 kilometres away (you can see them both on our map). These include supermarkets, banks, a post office and car rental agents. The seafront at Kastelli has plenty of tavernas, restaurants and bars, and many more can be found at the small harbour outside the town, and in most of the surrounding villages.

In our home village of Plakalona you can buy extra virgin olive oil produced from the olive trees that surround our land. Local wines and the infamous ‘raki’ spirit produced from grapes, known locally as ‘tsikouthia’, are also available. Local olives, cheeses and souvenirs can all be found in Kissamos, Kolymbari and Chania.

There are beaches ten minutes away at Mithimna, and beautiful rocky coves on the Ravdoucha peninsula, near Nopigia. There are also long sandy beaches at Falasarna, as well as an ancient Greek port to explore. If you like archaeology there are scores of sites dotted around the area (hidden in olive groves or in the centre of Kissamos). Visit the photo album for pictures of the local area!

Further afield

Whether your interest lies in mountain walks, sea and sun bathing, archaeological sites or exploring the region, we can suggest many and varied places for you to enjoy, all within an easy day’s trip.

West Crete is an endlessly fascinating land of traditional farming and village life, set in spectacular scenery, which we have taken delight in exploring, and hope you will too. Chania, half an hour away, has many interesting features, including the Venetian Harbour, the Old Town with its picturesque streets, a large indoor Market with many local products and souvenirs, as well as the variety of shopping and facilities to be expected in a large town. There are daily ferries from Souda, the port of Chania, to Athens (Piraeus) and to other islands.
